ABOUT HONOR FLIGHT NORTHWEST OHIO
The Honor Flight Network will do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help our heroes travel to Washington DC to see their war memorials absolutely free.
Honor
Flight Northwest Ohio is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 2007 to
send the veterans of Northwest Ohio to Washington, DC to see the memorials built
to honor their service. To date,
1521 veterans have safely flown on 30 flights
to see their memorials.
The Honor Flight Network was founded by Earl Morse in 2005. To
date, this network, which is comprised of 101 regional hubs in 39 states, has
flown approximately 81,000 veterans to the memorials in Washington, DC. As one
of the networks safest hubs, we are proud to be a part of this overwhelming
achievement.
However, time is of the essence. The Department of Veteran’s
Affairs estimates that approximately 1,000 WWII veterans die each day. Due to
their deteriorating health, and their financial limitations, most veterans would
not be able to see their memorial on their own. It is through the generosity of
our volunteers, corporate and individual sponsors, that Honor Flight Northwest
Ohio is able to help provide this service to these veterans.
$400.00 is all it takes to sponsor a veteran for this one-day-trip.
This all-inclusive
trip provides transportation to and from Washington, DC, bus service to the
memorials, all meals and beverages throughout the day. In addition, wheelchairs
are available for each veteran making the trip. A trained medical team
accompanies each flight to assist with medical needs such as oxygen and diabetes
management (insulin).
98% of all donations to our organization are used
to get the veterans to their memorials. Our guardians each pay for the privilege
of escorting the veterans on this trip. Local medical providers have generously
donated the equipment needed for each flight. Our executive committee is unpaid;
they too volunteer their time for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Let's Continue The Mission!!
